Layers
of the rainforest |
| Emergents | The trees get lots of sunlight. The tallest trees of the rainforest are in the emergent layer. Some trees grow 200 feet tall. |
| Canopy | The trees get sunlight and are also tall here. Lots of fruits and flowers grow here. This is the main layer of the rainforest. |
| Understory | This layer of the rainforest does not get much light. The canopy layer blocks the sunlight. Plants grow up to 12 feet high. |
| Forest Floor | Almost no sun reaches this layer. It is very wet and warm in this layer. Things rot quickly here. |
