Chimpanzees

Animal's Body: size, color, type of covering and special body parts.

Chimpanzees are about 30 inches tall. They weigh about 100 to 175 pounds.

Chimpanzee bodies are covered with long black hair.

Their faces are pinkish to black. They don’t have a tail.

Chimpanzees have really long arms.

One of their toes, on each foot, is just like a thumb so they can grab objects easily.

Animal's Habitat: location in the world they live, type of habitat, and type of home

Chimpanzees live in Western and Central Africa. They can be found in 21 African countries.

They live in thick forests, open woodlands, swamps or grassy savannas.

Chimpanzees make a "sleeping nest" in trees. These nests are shaped like a bowl. They are made mostly out of leaves.

Animals Living Habits: eating, sleeping and moving.

They eat mostly leaves and fruit. In long dry seasons they eat plant buds and blossoms. They do eat animals, but not very often.

Chimpanzees curl up and sleep in the "sleeping nests" they make in trees.

When they move, they usually walk on all four limbs, although they can also walk upright for short distances.
