Lynx

Animal's Body: size, color, type of covering and special body parts.

Lynx are two and a half feet long. They weigh between 17 to 25 pounds.

Lynx are light brown or gray with dark brown spots.

They have thick fur.

Lynx have short tails and a tuft of black hair on their ear tips. Their legs have wide furry feet to walk on the snow.

 

 

Animal's Habitat: location in the world they live, type of habitat, and type of home.

Lynx are found only in the northern hemisphere.

Lynx are found in northern forests with hollow trees or downed logs for dens. They also like brush, bogs and swamps. Lynx also can be found in mountains.

Lynx usually male dens in old trees for their homes.

 

 

Areas lynx are found are in green.

Animals Living Habits: eating, sleeping and moving.

Lynx eat birds and fish but their favorite food is the snowshoe hare. They quietly and slowly stalk their prey and then pounce on it.

Lynx sleep in dens, hollow trees, thick bushes, or rocky crevices or caves. They sleep during the day.

Lynx spend most of their time walking on the ground. However, they are good tree climbers. When walking on snow their toes spread out and act like snowshoes to support them on top of the snow. Lynx will also swim.

 

 

Fun Facts

  • Lynx are solitary. They like to be alone. But they can travel and hunt with other lynx once in a while.
  • Hunting lynx is illegal in many countries.
  • Lynx are so secretive scientists have a hard time finding them.
