What is this symbol?

The flag has 7 red stripes and 6 white stripes. It also has a blue rectangle with 50 white stars.

 


 

Where is it located?

It can be found almost anywhere. Some places it can be found include buildings, homes, cars, and clothing.

 


 

What does it symbolize or represent?

The flag represents the United States.

The 50 stars on the flag represent the 50 U.S. states. The 13 stripes represent the original 13 Colonies that rebelled against the British.

 


 

Facts about this symbol:

1.   No one knows for sure who made the first flag.

2.   There is a legend that Betsy Ross made the first flag in 1776. This legend also says that George Washington asked her design and make it. This has never been proven.

3.   We do know that on June 14, 1777, the U.S. Congress ordered a flag to be made.

4.   George Washington asked for these flags because he was fighting the British in the Revolutionary War. He did not get the flags until after the American Revolution was over.
