What is this symbol?

The Great Seal is a round piece of metal. It is used as a stamp.

 


 

Where is it located?

It is found on the dollar bill and other government documents.

 


 

What does it symbolize or represent?

The great seal symbolizes the United States government.

 


 

Facts about this symbol:

1.   The front of the seal is a bald eagle with a shield. The shield has 13 red and white stripes. The stripes represent the 13 original colonies.

2.   In one claw the eagle holds an olive branch symbolizing peace. In the other claw are arrows symbolizing war.

3.   The United States stamps the seal on treaties with other countries.

Did you know?

On July 4, 1776, Congress asked Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams to make a Great Seal. It took six years to finish.

The seal has two sides. The other side has a picture of a pyramid with an eye looking over it.
