Facts about this symbol:

1.   Thomas Jefferson was one of the writers of the Declaration of Independence.

2.   Many Americans wanted to remember and honor him. They decided to build a memorial to honor him.

3.   Thomas Jefferson liked Roman architecture. They decided to make a building like Jefferson's home called Monticello.

4.   The Jefferson Memorial was dedicated on April 13, 1943. It was the 200th anniversary of Jefferson's birth.

5.   Inside of the memorial is a bronze statue of Jefferson.
