Where is it located?

The White House is located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C.


 

What does it symbolize or represent?

The White House symbolizes democracy.

 


 

Facts about this symbol:

1.   The White House was started in 1792. It was built so that the president would have a place to live. It was finished in 1800.

2.   During construction, builders were afraid the stone used to make the White House would break. They covered it with white glue to save it. It later became known as the White House.

3.   The White House has 3 parts. One part is the presidents home. It is in the middle. Another is the West Wing where the president works. The last part is the East Wing where the president's wife works.

4.   The building is also used by many other government workers. 5000 people work or visit it each day.

5.   The White House is very large. It is 6 stories high. But you can only see 2 stories because most of it is underground, or covered by trees. It has 132 rooms and 35 bathrooms.

Did you know?

The White House was first called the President's House.

George Washington was the only United States president that didn't live in the White House.

The White House has a tennis court, bowling alley and a movie theater in it.
