Charles Lindbergh was born on February 4, 1902 in Detroit, Michigan.

He died on August 26, 1974 in Kipahulu, Maui, Hawaii.

Accomplishments

Charles is famous because he was the first person to fly across the Atlantic Ocean non-stop by himself (solo).

Young Life and Family

Lindbergh grew up on a farm near Little Falls, Minnesota.

Charles was good at mechanics.

Adult Life

Charles became a pilot. He did stunts in the air.

In 1919 he heard about a $25,000 prize for someone who could fly from New York to Paris without stopping. Most people had died trying to do this. Charles thought that he could do it.

In 1927 he had his plane ready to go. He took off at 7:52 am. He got to Paris in 33 1/2 hours.

Lindbergh was in World War II. He was given a German medal and he accepted it. Many Americans thought that he was a traitor.

Charles spent the rest of his life flying and writing books.

He died of cancer.
