Clara Barton was born on December 25, 1821 in North Oxford, Massachusetts.

She died on April 12, 1912 in Maryland.

Accomplishments

Clara Barton is famous because she founded the American Red Cross.

Young Life and Family

  Clara had two brothers and two sisters.

She was a very shy person and went to two schools and did not make any friends at them. So her mother decided to take her out of school. When she was eight she was sent to a boarding school.

Adult Life
 

When the Civil War started Clara was working as a nurse. She became known as the "the angel of the battlefield."

When the war was over, she went to Europe to rest. She was in another war there.

She learned more about war and founded the International Red Cross. The Red Cross is an organization that helps people who have been in disasters. Ten years later she founded the American Red Cross.
