Mother Jones was born on May 1, 1830 in Cork, Ireland.

She died on November 30, 1930 in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Accomplishments
 

Mother Jones was famous because she was a labor leader and social reformer.

Young Life and Family
    Mother Jones' real name was Mary Harris Jones.

Her family came to America in 1835. She grew up in Toronto, Ontario. Her family was poor.

She went to school to learn how to be a teacher. She also learned dressmaking.

Adult Life
 

Mother Jones was known as "the miner's angel." This is because she was always working to help miners have the right to good pay and working conditions in the mines. To mine owners she was known as the "most dangerous woman in America."

She was also concerned about children having to work in mills. She led a march of 300 children who worked in mills. They marched from the mills in Pennsylvania to Theodore Roosevelt's home in New York. The march lasted a week.
