Jesse was the youngest of ten children. His name was James, but people called him Jesse. In junior high school people started to noticed his running ability. That was when he joined the track team.

In 1936 he participated in the Olympic Games in Berlin, Germany. He set a record for the 100 yard dash. He earned four gold medals for the: 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, and the long jump. Jesse died of lung cancer in Tuscan, Illinois. |
