
George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 in Virginia. He died on December 14, 1799.
George Washington was famous because he was the first president of the United States of America.
George had no formal schooling. He was taught by his family and tutors. His first job was being a surveyor. A surveyor is a person who measures land. George's dad was a farmer. When George's dad died he moved in with his brother Lawrence at Mount Vernon.
In his adult life he was commander and chief of Virginia's army from 1755 to 1758. He was elected to the State Government of Virginia in 1759 and served until 1774. George then went on to be leader of the Continental Army for the thirteen colonies. Washington was elected the first president of the United States.
