  • In Newsweek's "America's Best High Schools" Published in April 2005, St. Louis Park High School was ranked 305 out of 1,061 high schools listed, the third highest rated school in Minnesota.
Community
St. Louis Park is a western suburb of Minneapolis with a population of approximately 44,000. Students come from diverse cultural, educational, and economic backgrounds. St. Louis Park is a "Children First" community, and has become a national model by using developmental-asset research to promote positive community attitudes that help children grow toward healthy adult lives.

Grading System
A standard 4.0 grading system with letter grades of A, B, C, D, or F is used. Accelerated, Honors, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate classes are not weighted as part of the GPA. The "P" for pass is included as a credit towards graduation, but does not count in the GPA. Class rank is based on GPA and includes all marks earned in grades 9-12. There are no shared ranks among students.

International Baccalaureate
St. Louis Park Senior High is currently in its fifth year of offering IB courses. The IB Program is a rigorous two-year college preparatory program. Juniors and seniors can self-select to enroll in the IB Certificate or Diploma Programs. In the past three years, 54 out of 55 IB Diploma candidates have earned the diploma. Faculty
Social workers, a psychologist, a chemical health specialist, and guidance counselors serve the high. Approximately 65% of the secondary school teaching staff hold an advanced degree.

Academics
  • The class of 2006 has two semifinalists and ten commended students in the National Merit Scholarship program.
  • During the last three years, three students received perfect SAT scores, and two students received a perfect ACT scores.
  • One student was chosen as the 2003 National Presidential Scholar and went to Washington, DC
  • Award winning publications: Echo, Echowan and Mandala
Graduation Requirements
All students are required to earn 46 semester credits. In addition, all students must pass Minnesota Basic Skills tests in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. Classes 2006 and 2007 must meet the 17 standards. Classes 2008-2009 must earn 17 academic area requirements to earn a diploma.

Postsecondary Plans
Of the graduating class, 90% chose to attend postsecondary. Of those attending postsecondary:

St. Louis Park Senior High School offers a comprehensive curriculum program with over 275 courses.

International Baccalaureate:
History SL & HL, English SL & HL, French SL, German SL, Spanish SL & HL, Biology SL & HL, Chemistry SL, Physics SL, Math Methods SL, Math HL, Music Theory SL and Theory of Knowledge. Theatre Arts SL, Computer Science SL.

Advanced Placement:
U. S. History, European History, Psychology, English, French, Spanish, German, Biology, Physics, Calculus AB
Other AP courses may be taken as Independent Study.

Honors:
Communications/English I-IV, Creative Writing, Geometry, Algebra & Trigonometry, Pre-calculus
A ninth grade honors program includes Communications/English, Civics and Science.
