International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme In the St Louis Park Public Schools

We are excited to announce that we are incorporating the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB) curriculum for all students in these four primary and intermediate schools: Aquila, Peter Hobart, Susan Lindgren, Cedar Manor.

What is IB?
The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. The IB program offers an international education for students and includes three components: Primary Years (ages 3-12), Middle Years (ages 11-16) and Diploma (ages 16-19).

IB creates a true international flavor within a school, and includes weekly Spanish instruction for all primary grades students (60 minutes for kindergartners and 90 minutes for grades 1-3).

How will students learn?
All subject areas - language arts, math, art, social studies, science / technology, and personal / social / physical education - are taught using six interdisciplinary themes:
  • Who we are
  • Where we are in place and time
  • How we express ourselves
  • How the world works
  • How we organize ourselves
  • Sharing the planet
In addition, all students receive weekly Spanish instruction (60 minutes for kindergartners and 90 minutes for grades 1-6).
