Questions and Answers about the St. Louis Park Schools Kindergarten Options 1. What neighborhood school is my child assigned to attend? St. Louis Park is divided into two neighborhood school attendance areas for Aquila and Peter Hobart Primary Centers. Please call Lynda Stanley at 952-928-6023 if you are uncertain which neighborhood school your child is assigned to attend. 2. How do I apply for the new Kindergarten Plus option? If you are interested in having your child attend the all day, everyday Kindergarten Plus options at Aquila or Peter Hobart in the fall of 2008, you must submit an application by April 28, 2008. You can mail the form or drop it off at the District Office, 6425 West 33rd Street, St. Louis Park, MN 55426; fax it to 952-928-6020; or apply on-line at www.slpcommunityed.com. If necessary, a lottery will be held for Kindergarten Plus after April 28, with parents informed of results by May 5, 2008. Information for the Kindergarten Plus program can be obtained by calling Deb Cherico, 952-928-6061. 3. What if our family needs child care? There are a number of choices for you! You can combine before and after school care with the new Kindergarten Plus option. You can also choose the Kids' Place Child Care half-day option one to five days a week. Children in Kids' Place Child Care spend the traditional half-day in their kindergarten room and the other half-day in the Kids' Place Child Care classroom. Before and after school care is also available. Please note that you need to apply for Kindergarten Plus and register for Kids' Place Child Care individually and that each program is tuition/fee-based. Registration for all Kids' Place programs are on a first come, first served basis. 4. What happens at Kindergarten Roundup/Registration on Tuesday, March 11, 2008? You and your child will be welcomed to their new school! You will have an opportunity to meet school staff, while your child spends time in the kindergarten classroom with kindergarten teachers. Staff will answer your questions about whether your child will attend morning or afternoon kindergarten; bus transportation; starting school and school calendar dates. Make sure you bring your child's birth certificate and immunization records. At Aquila and Peter Hobart, you also will be able to pick up an application form for the new Kindergarten Plus full day kindergarten option. At all three schools you will be able to pick up registration forms for the Kids' Place Child Care options. If you are unable to attend Kindergarten Roundup/Registration, please call your child's school to make alternative arrangements. | |
