PSI Teacher and Park Resident Kim Wieber du Saire Awarded Minnesota's 2008 NCLB American Star of Teaching presented by the U.S. Department of EducationThe U.S. Department of Education honored Park Spanish Immersion (PSI) School Teacher and Park Resident Kim Wieber du Saire with Minnesota's 2008 NCLB American Star of Teaching award on September 10, 2008. The award, given only to one Minnesota teacher annually, highlights effective teaching practices.
PSI Principal Ursina Swanson said, Wieber "has made a huge impact on countless numbers of first-graders in her classroom." Annually, under Wieber's leadership, first grade students write, illustrate and publish a book about their first grade experiences and reads aloud their book to an audience of parents and friends at an "Author's Tea."
In addition to her classroom responsibilities, Wieber coordinates an annual talent show for students that Principal Swanson calls "a great community builder for the school." Wieber has also co-written a play called "The Art Show" with Brad Richardson, a Park resident and parent of three children who attend Park schools. The show is performed in Spanish by Park Spanish Immersion School students to full houses of students and members of the community.
