Schools Of Excellence
All seven St. Louis Park Public Schools have been designated Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education.
Enrollment
St. Louis Park Public Schools serve 4,200 students in grades K-12 at 7 school sites, offering small classes, personal attention, and the opportunity to participate.
Graduates Succeed
SLP graduates enter the world prepared to work, learn, and serve: Ninety percent of the graduating class of 2004 chose to attend postsecondary school.
Academic Achievement
SLP is proud of the Academic Achievement of its students.
SLP eighth grade students ranked first in the nation in math proficiency on the 2003 National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) (i.e. percent of students scoring at the proficient level or above).
SLP eighth grade students tied for seventh in the nation in reading proficiency on the 2003 National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) (i.e. percent of students scoring at the proficient level or above).
SLP High School ranked 526, among the top 4% of all American public high schools in Newsweek 2002 according to a ratio called the Challenge Index: the number of Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate tests taken by all students at a school in 2002 divided by the number of graduating seniors. Schools that chose more than half of their students by grades or test scores were not considered because the index is designed to identify schools that challenge average students and does not work well with schools that have few or no average students.

Students: St. Louis Park High School is proud to have 16 National Merit
Scholar students: 4 Semi-Finalists and 12 Commended Students.
In 2003 the Minnesota Department of Education cited St. Louis
Park High School for exemplary student performance on the Grade 11 Math
Tests. St. Louis Park students not only scored high in the Grade 11
Math Tests, they also have a high percentage of students taking math
courses.
The largest number of National Merit Finalists (23) in Minnesota
in 2002 in a graduating class of 273 (the highest in Minnesota).
During the last three years, three students received perfect SAT scores, and two students received perfect ACT scores.
Safety
SLP cares about the safety of its students. Every school has video surveillance cameras, pass card entrance during the school day, and alcohol and drug education programs.
Teachers And Staff
- The district is on the cutting edge of innovative ideas to increase student achievement and help teachers advance professionally with implementation of the Alternative Teacher Professional Pay System. Following the state guidelines referred to as Q-Comp, the initiative was designed by and for our teachers to provide a framework for sharing classroom expertise that will result in higher student achievement.
- Park Spanish Immersion 5th and 6th grade English teacher, Lee-Ann Stephens was named the 2006 Minnesota Teacher of the Year by Education Minnesota. She is the state's nominee for the 2007 National Teacher of the Year Award.
Community Support
Our community puts Children First, putting its money and time in support of education.
- Over 1,200 of our students' parents, along with over 250 community members, volunteer in our schools every year.
- Our community passed an Operating Levy in November 2004 and 2001.
Our community passed a Bond Referendum in November 2004 and in December 1999.
Diversity
- Over 30 world languages are spoken in St. Louis Park homes. St. Louis Park is a diverse community of Christian, Jewish, Muslim & other faiths
- Expanded cultural curriculum offerings (e.g. Hebrew class, Spanish Immersion, World Languages)
- Racial diversity: 18% children of color.
- Economic diversity: 22% qualify for free & reduced lunch
Programming
SLP offers innovative, challenging programming to meet the needs of its diverse students.
SLP offers Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and college-level courses for high-performing students, advanced foreign language courses and higher-level math courses.
SLP offers an alternative high school program to create opportunities for every student to graduate.
SLP implemented an International Baccalaureate Program in September 2001 at its High School.
SLP began Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School in 1996, growing it to a K-6 school by 2002-2003.
SLP offers gifted and talented program.
The Arts
The arts are alive and well in SLP schools.
SLP Senior High has three award-winning publications; Echo, Echowan and Mandala
Orchestra and band begin in the elementary schools at the intermediate level.
Art specialists begin in the elementary schools at the intermediate level.
Technology
Technology assists in academic achievement: SLP was the first in the nation to be fully linked-classroom to classroom, building to building and beyond--by computer, video and telephone networks.
St. Louis Park students, and the community as well, have access to local, national and global resources through the district's computer and video networks.
