Site Council Update

Noticias de la Escuela – October 2004

In case you don’t know and might be wondering – PSI Site Council is a group that has the opportunity to unite the energies of parents, staff and administration towards the goals of the PSI mission statement which puts student achievement at the top. PSI SC is a group that advises and works as a liaison between the school, the school board and the community in the areas of student-staff-immersion support, facility and security needs and public relations.

In September, SC held a Retreat that focused on current affairs of both the district and PSI. Dr. Debra Bowers delivered the ‘state of the district’ offering her views and pursuits towards: No Child Left Behind legislation, Yearly Adequate Progress as it relates to SLP schools, and the use of data for students and teachers. Principal Swanson shared her perspective, expectations and goals for PSI highlighting bilingual education and academic excellence as main pieces. SC also continues work on the Strategic Site Planning process. In this process we are helping to document school success as well as actively plan towards continuous improvement.

In the spirit of better communication and to assist in a smoother transition, the Jr. High SC has opened one liaison seat for each of the middle schools - PSI SC is excited to participate. We also offer representation on the District Parent Advisory Council.

All SC meetings are open to the public – feel invited to sit in on a meeting to learn more about their activities. If you would like to present a site issue or topic for an agenda item, please contact the chair, principal or any SC member. Minutes for all meetings are made available in the school office.

Our next meeting is scheduled for October 28th in the Media Center.
