St. Louis Park Rotary Volunteers Make a Difference in our Schools
St. Louis Park is fortunate to have two wonderful Rotary
Clubs, The Sunrise Rotary and the Noon Rotary.
For many years, several members of the Sunrise Rotary have
volunteered at Aquila School. They go to Aquila right
after their Friday morning meeting and work 1-1 reading
with assigned students. Thanks to them, children have an extra opportunity to practice reading with a trained, caring adult. Stan
Jurgensen has been with the program the longest, over 10 years; the
Aquila Reading staff looks forward to his return along with the other Rotary volunteers, every fall!
In early February, several Noon Rotary members acted on their
commitment to helping children by becoming math volunteers
at Cedar Manor School. Every Thursday the Rotary volunteers
help 4 graders with math. They each work with 2-3
students in the areas of time, measurement and/or money.
The individualized math instruction is a great help for students.
In addition to coaching children on their academic work,
these dedicated Rotary Volunteers help build assets; they
model service to others, and remind our children that in
addition to their parents and teachers, the community
thinks their education is important too!
If you have an interest in finding out more about these programs or becoming a school volunteer, please contact the City and Schools Volunteer office at 952-928-6025.
