Congratulations to Arun Ferran-Sapatnekar, a sixth grader at St. Louis Park Middle School, for qualifying for the 2019 National Geographic Minnesota State GeoBee. Ferran-Sapatnekar is one of 100 students to qualify for the state competition, which will be held on March 29 at the University of Minnesota.
The 2018-19 School Start-End Times Project Team held its fourth and final meeting on Monday, March 4. The group reviewed stakeholder feedback for the four options they developed in February and selected their first and second choice options to recommend to the School Board. Their recommendation follows with specific times and projected costs.
A number of construction projects are scheduled to take place during the Spring and Summer months of 2019 related to the bond referendum that was passed in November of 2017. District buildings where construction will take place this Spring and Summer include the High School, Middle School, Aquila Elementary School and Cedar Manor/Park Spanish Immersion School.
St. Louis Park High School sophomore Hayden Zheng won two individual state titles and broke a state record on Saturday, March 2 at the Minnesota State Boys Swimming and Diving Meet, which was held at the University of Minnesota's Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
St. Louis Park High School Music Teacher and Director of Bands and World Drumming Steve Schmitz has been named one of 40 semifinalists for the 2019 Minnesota Teacher of the Year Award. Schmitz has taught in public schools since 2003 and at St. Louis Park High School since 2011.
The St. Louis Park Public Schools School Board has scheduled Listening Sessions for March 18 and May 21. All stakeholders are invited to attend St. Louis Park School Board Listening Sessions to ask questions and have a conversation with school board members.
Snow has arrived in Minnesota. Are you prepared for a school closing, late start or early dismissal due to bad weather? St. Louis Park Public Schools will attempt to make a decision about a late start or school closing by 5:30 a.m. Early dismissals and decisions regarding after-school and evening athletics, events, and activities will be made by 2 p.m.
St. Louis Park High School is excited to host the 2019 BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks) National Conference on April 11-12, 2019. The 2019 BARR National Conference will celebrate BARR’s 20th anniversary and will feature a keynote address by former U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.
Information regarding free and reduced meal applications is now available online. An informational packet and application is also being mailed to all families the week of August 20, 2018.
