Who rides the bus?
School buses serve all public and non-public schools in the district. Students are eligible to ride the bus if they live: 0.6 miles from school (Primary grades), 1.0 mile from school (Intermediate grades), or 2.0 miles from school (Secondary grades).
What is, and is not, allowed on the bus?
Generally, students may bring items that fit into a backpack. An exception is musical instruments, which may be brought to school for music classes. Some objects are never allowed on the bus, see our website for details.
Bus Safety Rules
Arrive at least five minutes before the bus is scheduled to come. If you are across the street when the bus arrives, watch for a sign from the driver (a hand signal or a nod) that it is OK to cross. Cross 10 feet in front of the bus where the drive can see you. when you get off a bus, move 10 feet away and stay there until the bus driver signalsyou that it is safe to cross the street. Then walk in front of the bus, look both ways and, if no cars are moving, cross to the other side of the street.
Bus Behavior Rules
For a list of behavior rultes, please visit the Transportation website at www.slpschools.org/transportation.
Riding the bus is a privilege, not a right. When a student chooses not to behave on the bus, the driver will discuss the behavior with the student and fill out a bus conduct report. The driver may also assign the student to a seat at the front of the bus. See our website for behavioral consequences steps.
Bus routes are sent to families in mid- to late-August and are also posted online at www.slpschools.org/transportation.
