Collaborative Action Research for Equity (CARE)
Collaborative Action Research for Equity (CARE) is a team-based process where educators work together to identify, address and eliminate inequities in schools, particularly those tied to race, gender and other identity factors. CARE centers on researching racial and gender disparities in areas like academic achievement, discipline and access to opportunities, using data, lived experiences, and community input to uncover root causes.
Educators collaboratively investigate a selected inequity, focusing on how systemic biases, policies or practices contribute to unequal outcomes. Teams then develop, test and refine strategies to address the identified challenges, such as improving culturally responsive teaching, revising disciplinary policies, or increasing access to advanced coursework for underrepresented groups.
CARE emphasizes reflection and adaptability, ensuring interventions are effective and equitable. By examining how race, gender, and intersecting identities shape student experiences, CARE fosters inclusive, anti-racist practices and builds capacity for lasting, systemic change. This process empowers schools to create environments where every student’s brilliance is recognized and nurtured.

A CIP is a document that outlines a school's goals and priorities for improving student outcomes. SLP CIPs include four components:
- Plan for improvement
- Implement strategies
- Evaluate and study progress throughout the year
- Improve
