Why do so many SLP students opt out of testing?

St. Louis Park High School has a significantly higher opt-out rate than our neighboring school districts. We want to help staff, families, and students understand how these tests can benefit students and schools and how opting out can actually have unintended negative impacts.

What is the International Baccalaureate (IB) program?

The International Baccalaureate (IB) aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. Aquila, Peter Hobart and Susan Lindgren are officially authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to provide all students a rigorous and diverse education through the IB Primary Years Programme (IB-PYP). In January of 2016, St. Louis Park Middle School was designated as an IB World School, and St. Louis Park High School offers IB courses for students 16 to 19.

July 15, 2022 (This message appeared in the 7/15/22 special edition of the SLP Communicator)

Greetings,

I hope you are having a relaxing and enjoyable summer.  While we certainly want you to take full advantage of the remaining weeks of summer, we want to check in to share some information that will assist you in getting off to a great start to the school year. When you have a moment, please review the contents of this publication as it contains information about supply lists, transportation, nutrition services, and upcoming summer events.

Additionally, I want to remind you about the upcoming August 9 Special Election. St. Louis Park Public Schools will have two questions on the ballot for this upcoming election. Both questions focus on items that will enhance the daily lived experience of students, stabilize costs and conserve energy, maintain core operations, and improve safety and security.

To learn more about the questions, projects, and tax impact please visit our website at www.slpschools.org/2022referendum.

Early voting for the primary election began on June 24. If you are interested in voting early, you can vote at St. Louis Park City Hall now until August 8, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The hours will be extended for early voting on August 8 until 5:00 p.m.

Please vote! I hope you have an amazing second half of your summer break and I am looking forward to a great school year.

In community,

Astein
