For the first American Indian Parent Advisory Committee (AIPAC) Community Celebration, more than 100 attendees turned out for a day of food, culture, and games. Families and community members in attendance experienced an unforgettable day of cultural immersion and learning.

The event, organized by AIPAC, aimed to bring families together to celebrate the rich heritage of American Indian culture. From the moment the doors opened at 2 p.m. until the festivities concluded, attendees participated in an array of activities. The event kicked-off with dancing, drumming and Indian fry bread tacos. The drum beats and indigenous songs resonated with attendees, and it was exciting to see some attendees join in the dance and celebration.

During the month of April, Native Craft Circles were held as an opportunity for students and families to come together to create traditional clothing. This was a series of events, and several students prepared beautiful skirts lined with ribbons that each hold significant meaning. For some students, the AIPAC Community Celebration was an opportunity to debut regalia that was made in the Native Craft Circles.

Though there were many highlights to the AIPAC Community Celebration, one of the favorites was the intentional use of games. Nashke Native Games, an organization that seeks to preserve Ojibwe culture and language, provided fun and interactive games at the event. At the start of each game, information was provided about the meaning behind the game, explanations about Ojibwe words used, and directions on how to play. Competition and excitement stirred across the tables.

"We were thrilled to see the incredible turnout and enthusiasm from our community," said Julia McBride-Bibby, St. Louis Park Public Schools cultural liaison. "Events like these are not only about celebrating culture but also about coming together as a community to support and uplift one another. We are grateful for the opportunity to host such a meaningful event."

The event served as a reminder of the strength and resilience of the American Indian community and the importance of coming together to celebrate shared heritage and values.

With the resounding success of this year's celebration, anticipation is already building for next year's event.
