Progress Reports Revamped: A Comprehensive View of Student Development
This school year, our K-5 students and their families will experience a new and improved structure for progress reporting, thanks to the dedication and forward-thinking efforts of the Instruction and Learning team. The team's goal was simple but powerful: create a more comprehensive, clear, and meaningful way to track student growth—not just academically, but in all areas of their development. After months of hard work, collaboration, and thoughtful consideration, the new progress reports are ready for implementation.

Anne LaLonde-Laux, the District IB - Primary Years Coordinator and one of the leaders heading up this change, shared her excitement about the new progress reports and how they align with the district's academic vision.

“We’re thrilled about the introduction of these new progress reports because they reflect the rigor and focus we strive for in learning,” said LaLonde-Laux. “This isn’t just about grades or test scores; it’s about seeing the full picture of a child’s development. By including elements like and learning behaviors, we acknowledge the diverse ways students learn and grow.”

LaLonde-Laux emphasized how this change fits seamlessly into the district’s broader goals of fostering inquiry-based learning and developing well-rounded students.

“These reports allow us to give meaningful feedback that not only aligns with the philosophy of encouraging critical thinking, collaboration, and personal growth, but also are great for all elementary students” she continued. “We are moving beyond traditional academic measures and focusing on the kind of learning that helps students thrive in a complex world.”

The new progress reports are an exciting change for the district, bringing with them a deeper level of communication between teachers, students, and families. With the hard work of the Instruction and Learning team and the leadership of dedicated educators, the district is poised to offer a more dynamic and student-centered approach to progress reporting.

The new progress reports:
  • Outline academic progress: You will continue to receive updates on your child’s performance in core subjects such as reading, math, and writing.
  • Evaluate work habits and learning behaviors: You will also see feedback on your child’s approach to learning, including effort, participation, and organizational skills.
As families begin to receive these reports, they will have the tools to better support their child’s growth, and teachers will have a more effective way to communicate the successes and challenges of each student’s learning journey.

Here’s what you can expect:
  • More detailed feedback: You will see more comprehensive information about your child’s academic progress toward grade level standards.
  • More regular updates: Progress reports will be sent home according to the same schedule as before, but with more detailed information about your child’s overall progress.
  • Opportunities for collaboration: If you have any questions or concerns, we encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher. These reports are a tool for strengthening communication between school and home, so we can better support your child together.
We are grateful to the Instruction and Learning team for their vision and hard work in bringing this new structure to life, and to our teachers and staff for their dedication in implementing these changes with care and enthusiasm.
