Recognizing Excellence in Language Proficiency in MN Bilingual Seals and Global Biliteracy Seals

St. Louis Park Public Schools is celebrating the incredible achievements of its multilingual students through the Minnesota Bilingual Seals and Global Biliteracy Seals program. Last year marked the first year of this program in our district, and 66 students earned seals showcasing their language proficiency: 19 achieved Working Fluency, signifying an advanced ability to handle complex interactions, while 47 earned Functional Fluency, demonstrating strong skills for everyday communication.

Building on last year’s success, we’re thrilled to see even more diversity in the program this year. A total of 32 students will be taking the Bilingual Seal Test in February, representing an impressive array of languages: Spanish, German, French, Italian, Filipino, Swahili, Somali, and Oromo. It’s especially exciting to see students testing in less commonly taught languages like Filipino, Swahili, and Somali.

A special shoutout to Hanna Anderson, our amazing World Languages and Culture Department Chair at the High School. Her leadership has been instrumental in increasing awareness and access to the Bilingual Seal program.

Our students’ dedication to language learning is inspiring, and their achievements show the power of communication to connect people and cultures.
