Siham Mohamed, a recent graduate of St. Louis Park High School, is already making strides toward her future in healthcare. Thanks to the St. Louis Park High School Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program, Siham became more prepared to pursue her ambitions. Now studying nursing at Normandale College, she looks back fondly on the program that gave her a head start in both her career and personal growth.
“The CNA program not only helped me a lot, but it helped a lot of other people,” said Siham. “A lot of my friends in my class found a space to grow in.”
For Siham, the benefits of the program extended beyond the classroom. “I enjoyed the CNA program because of how much it benefited my life outside of school. I didn’t ever think that a class at school could give me a head start in the healthcare industry and allow me to make money,” she shared.
The CNA program offers students hands-on training and experience in healthcare, all at no cost. Siham explained how it prepared her for the future. The program provided a space to learn, and practice in a practice hospital. Students even have an opportunity to visit a senior living center and work with patients.
After graduating from Normandale, Siham hopes to continue her education to become a licensed counselor or therapist. She credits the CNA program as her first step toward this goal, stating, “I didn’t think I would see myself in this position until I took the CNA course. It opened a lot of doors for me.”
When asked to share advice to current students, Siham encouraged students to “Give it a try. Even if you’re not sure you’re interested in the healthcare field, there are plenty of other benefits. It’s something extra to add to your resume and a way to start making good money at a young age.”
With determination and gratitude, Siham Mohamed is a shining example of the opportunities the CNA program offers to students at St. Louis Park High School—preparing them not only for their careers but for success in life.
