Standing Against Hate: A Message to Our SLP Community

SLP Families,

In a time of deep division, Tuesday’s election has brought forth a strong emotional response from people across the nation. Incidents of racism, sexism and xenophobia have been leaving wounds, and these instances of hate are also deeply impacting our SLP community. Our priority remains – we are here for the well-being and humanity of each and every student.

Some students have reported receiving text messages on their personal device from anonymous phone numbers that seek to cause harm, exclude, intimidate and traumatize. These messages refer to slavery and appear to target Black individuals. There is also messaging saying “your body, my choice,” often directed at female students from unknown numbers.

We do not tolerate these actions. We donot tolerate hate. It goes against who we are and what we stand for as a district. We are dedicated to creating safe, inclusive environments, and our commitment to racial equity is our guiding compass that helps each student thrive in their brilliance.

If students need support, please encourage the use of resources, including our support staff. We ask that our school community immediately report any of these messages to communications@slpschools.org. We also encourage families to create spaces for their students to discuss the harmful impacts these messages have on themselves and others. We appreciate you being in community with us.

Sincerely,
Dr. Carlondrea Hines
Superintendent of St. Louis Park Public Schools
