What Families Can Expect from Continuous Improvement Plans (CIPs)

At St. Louis Park Public Schools, we are dedicated to creating the best learning environment for each student. One key tool we use to support this mission is our Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP). Here’s an overview of what a CIP is, why it matters, and what you can expect as we work together throughout the school year.

What is a CIP?

Continuous improvement plans are a proactive way to improve the school system by analyzing performance and identifying opportunities. CIPs focus on key areas including academic performance, student well-being, equity, and community engagement. Each school has a series of goals that are created through a data review process. Principals have selected four goals, which include:

  • CARE Team: This goal is intended to sustain and deepen the identity, skills, intellectualism, criticality, and joy of students.

  • Two academic objectives: These goals are intended to improve the overall academic performance of students. Typically, these goals involve literacy or mathematics, though this varies at sites.

  • Building culture and climate: This goal is intended to enhance the overall wellness of students and staff.

How often does this occur?

CIP plans occur on an annual basis beginning and ending in June. Principals start to develop their goals in the spring, review research from the YDA student interns in the summer, seek approval from the superintendent in the fall, and complete monthly data meetings throughout the year. CIP outlines the school's priorities for improving student outcomes and include four components:

  1. Plan for improvement

  2. Implement strategies

  3. Evaluate and study progress throughout the year

  4. Improve, and begin the process again

How are CIPs evaluated?

Each goal has action steps that are being taken, and data is being used to assess their progress. Once the CIP is approved, principals and administration begin holding monthly data meetings where they monitor progress. These meetings provide principals with
