It was hard to walk into St. Louis Park High School on day one without cracking a smile. Community leaders, School Board members, and staff lined the doors and high fived students, welcoming them to their first day of the 2016-17 school year. Student Council also worked to make students feel back at home with their Welcome and Park Pride Yard signs decorating the grounds.
Students were able to walk with their friends to attend a morning student assembly where they heard from Principal Scott Meyers about the plans for the day. Joe Beckman spoke to the crowd about making the 2016-17 school year, the "Best Year Ever!"
Student Council was able to take over for a while and entertain the freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors with various competitive games. One game involved students using only their face to dig through a pile of whipped cream to find the candy at the bottom. While students were able to continue the laughter while listening to Spoken Word Artist Frank Sentwali, they were also able to reflect on more serious situations they may face during their high school career.
After the Pep Fest, students were able to join their friends, teachers, and staff to have a provided lunch of pizza, Italian ice, and chips. They finished off the day by going to their classes according to their abbreviated class schedules.
