Captains
2023 CaptainsCharlie Poulter: Senior
Cole Taylor: Senior
Co Captains this season will be Charlie Poulter and Cole Taylor. We will be keeping a close eye on everyone as they are all future captain prospects. Captain nomination is not necessarily limited to one golfer. We are looking for players to step up as leaders with positive attitudes, regardless of age. The Captain's responsibilities this year include:
1. Communicating information between players and coach.
2. Scheduling Captains Practices
3. Modeling behavior consistent with team goals during
competition and practice.
4. Promoting a cohesive team atmosphere.
5. Helping to promote the golf program at the youth level through school visits and summer camps.
6. Positive Role Modeling
7. Team Building Activities
8. Golf Apparel choices
9. Organizing the end of the year banquet.
What You Need
It is recommended each student athlete has their own set of clubs. HOWEVER, if you don't have clubs, we will provide clubs, shirts, hats and instruction to anyone that is interested in joining and learning. I guarantee equipment will be available for anyone that wants to join. Please, do not let that be a reason your son does not join. Scholarships available-reach out to Coach Becker for more information on scholarships. Our booster club helps support this program.
All student athletes must have a current physical on file with the Athletic Department prior to participation. Physicals are current for three years. Returning student athletes, check with the Athletic Department to determine if your physical is current through the 2022 Spring season.
When the golf courses eventually open, student athletes must coordinate and provide their own transportation to and from practices.

Mission Statement
The Mission Statement represents the core beliefs and ideals by which the program will operate. The coaching staff is committed to these goals and will strive to fulfill these expectations on a daily basis.
1. Establish the traditions and standards of excellence that will guide the St. Louis Park Boys Golf Program.
2. Operate with integrity: build a diverse and inclusive team environment.
3. Be any ally for any person interested in joining the team.
4. Develop a genuine appreciation for the contribution that each individual makes to the St. Louis Park Boys Golf program.
5. Promote pride and confidence in the St. Louis Park Boys Golf Team and represent St. Louis Park Schools and the St. Louis Park Community to the best of my ability.
6. Promote the value of education.
7. Promote the value of good sportsmanship.
8. Develop an appreciation and sensitivity for ethnicity and cultural diversity.
9. Encourage parental involvement in the St. Louis Park Boys Golf Program. Parents are a part of the team and they are vital in making the Golf program a success.
10. Keep the game fun for everyone.
11. DONT DO ANYTHING DETRIMENTAL TO YOURSELF OR THE TEAM
Program Philosphy
Our philosophy is to get as many interested student athletes involved as possible. While we are limited to how many players can participate in Varsity and JV matches, we will continue to include a developmental team. There will be no "cuts" in this program. If you are interested in playing, we want you to join the program and will do everything we can to help you grow your game. We will continue to go this route to help grow and enhance the future of the golf program. We will still be naming Varsity and JV rosters, but they will be fluid and even though some people may not participate in matches this year, we want them to practice with the team and be an integral part of the program going forward. We want to help grow this program from the bottom up to become an environment of learning, fun and ultimately success on the golf course.
Criteria for deciding rosters will be as follows:
1. Performance in qualifying rounds
2. Performance in practices
3. Performance in matches
4. Attitude in all aspects of the program
5. Willingness to help others and being an active leader in the program
Expectations
HAVE FUN
1. Respect the equal authority and decisions of all coaches and supervisors.
2. Respect and treat each other with the dignity appropriate of young men working toward a common team goal.
3. Act in a mature fashion both on and off the course. Remember, you will be competing and practicing at public and exclusive private venues throughout the city. Your behavior and conduct reflects the entire community of St. Louis Park. Represent our school and community in a mature and honorable manner.
4. Encourage each other both on and off the course. Help each other improve.
5. Dress appropriately: Collar shirt, non-denim pants or shorts, golf shoes, hat worn forward.
6. HAVE FUN- Golf is a great game that can be enjoyed well into our golden years. We want to promote a fun environment that is welcoming to all involved.
Team Rules
The golf team's training rules follow those enforced by the State High School League. There will be NO smoking, chewing, drinking of alcoholic beverages or use of any illicit substances allowed. Any participant in violation of these training rules will receive a three week or three event (which ever is longer) suspension from the team. If this violation occurs prior to team selection, the participant forfeits the opportunity to attempt to qualify for the team.
Lettering
To earn a Varsity letter a player must compete in at least half Varsity matches or have their score count in half of those matches. An 18 hole tournament counts as one match.
Each competitive match requires 6 participants. The top 4 scores in each match count towards that team's total. Two scores are thrown out.
A senior who has been a member of the Varsity Team for three years will receive a Varsity Letter.
All-Conference and All-Conference Honorable Mention Awards
The top fourteen (14) players in the North Suburban Conference will be selected to receive All-Conference Distinction. The ranking of players will be determined by calculating the average of each player's eight best 9-hole rounds. To be eligible, a player must compete in a minimum of eight 9-hole conference competitions. The Mid-season and End-of Season Tournaments count as two. Players ranking 15 - 20 will receive Honorable Mention Distinction.
Academics & Attendance
All players are expected to be making satisfactory academic progress in each of their courses of study. SCHOOL COMES FIRST! All players are required to maintain a cumulative GPA of 1.5 or above in order to participate on the team. Receiving a failure (F) grade in any individual course will result in temporary dismissal from the team until a passing grade has been attained.
In addition, the following behaviors could result in temporary suspension from team competition:
1. Unexcused absences from classes.
2. In-school or Out of school disruptions or discipline concerns.
Practice
Each player is responsible for notifying any boys head or assisistant coach prior to missing a practice or match. The student or parent should call even if the player is absent from school that day. Advanced notice is preferred whenever possible.
Any parent available to aid in the transportation of players to and from matches or practices are asked to notify Coach Becker
