Jake Fobbe State Champion Manager


Long-Time Manager Wins 5th Consecutive State Championship

When you attend a St. Louis Park Boys Hockey practice or game over the last 11 years, there is one face you always see, manager Jake Fobbe. Fobbe began managing during the 02-03 season and has continued through 2022.

On January 29th, 2012, in Golden Valley, Fobbe and his floor hockey team called the OMG Storm won their fifth consecutive state Special Olympics championship. Fobbe anchored the defense as he has over the last five seasons and recorded two shots on goal nearly scoring a goal. His teammates broke open a scoreless tie in the third period with four goals to give the Storm a 4-1 win. 

The celebration was on. Fobbe's father, Dan has served as the teams coach over the years and was a little nervous as the game remained scoreless. "It is a great group of kids, I'm so happy for them." 

Jake was the manager for the last Park state tourney appearance in 2003 and worked under Tim Donahue, Paul Olson, and Donnie Williams and was very happy to continue in his role with Shjon Podein taking over as head coach this year. His commitment to managing is fantastic as he walks 8-9 blocks home after nearly every practice or game regardless of the weather.

He is at the rink to help with jerseys, water bottles, any errands or needs the players or coaches have. He managed the 2012 team with Paige Nagel (4th year) and Julia Rose (3rd year). He is a true St. Louis Park All-Star.

3 NHL Draft Picks - College Hockey Players

Over 70 Park players have gone on to play after high school

Andrew Sackrison (2006) was an all-state player for Park as a center who was one of 10 finalists for Mr. Hockey. Sackrison played 4 years at MSU-Mankato and was selected in the 5th round of the 2006 NHL draft by St. Louis Blues.

Erik Rasmussen (1995) was Minnesota's Mr. Hockey his senior year and a three-time all-conference selection at Park. He played two years for the Minnesota Gophers and was a 1st round draft pick (7th overall) in the 1996 NHL draft. He played 8 years in the NHL and teaches hockey in the twin cities currently.

Bryan Rasmussen (1992) was all-conference his senior year at SLP and led the Orioles to a runner-up finish to Edina in the Lake Conference. He was a true power forward who was selected in the 11th round of the NHL draft in 92 by the Edmonton Oilers before playing juniors and starring at St. Thomas.

Brad Thompson (1999) was the leading scorer on the 1998 state tournament team who was all-state as a senior. He played four years at MSU-Mankato before playing 6 years in the minors in the CHL.

David Martinson (2004) NCAA Division 3 Hobey Baker National Player of the Year at Gustavus in 2010. Helped lead the Gusties to 2nd place in NCAA D3 tourney.

Goalie Josh Swartout (06) and Mitch Carlson (04) were teammates at Gustavus who were also All-Americans in 2010 and 2011.

Bob Owen (1954) Alternative Captain of 1960 USA Olympic Gold Medal Winning Team. Owen was a star at Park who played in 1953 state tourney and played 4 years at Harvard (D1) These are just a handful of Park alumni, check out the three alumni Lists on these pages for complete lists of all-conference, captains, and players who played after high school

SLP ALUMNI RECEIVE ALL-AMERICAN HONORS in '09-'10 & '10-'11

St. Louis Park Alumni David Martinson, 2004 Park graduate and 2011 Gustavus Adolphus College grad was named Division III Hockey's 2010 Player of the Year! This is the Hobey Baker Award for USA. CONGRATS

In addition, 3 St. Louis Park Alumni were named to the 2009-10 and 2010-11 RBK Hockey Division III Men's All-American teams for both seasons.

1995 Mr. Hockey - Gopher and 1st Round Pick

1995 Park Graduate Erik Rasmussen lettered 4 years at Park and led the team to two runner-up Lake Conference finishes in 1992 and 1993. He was a three-time all-conference selection at Park. He played two years at the U of M on a hockey scholarship and was selected in the first round (7th overall) by the Buffalo Sabres in 1996. He was the highest drafted Minnesotan in 14 years when the Sabres drafted him. He played 8 Years in NHL and resides in the twin cities currently
