St. Louis Park High School to Host 2019 BARR National Conference April 11-12

St. Louis Park High School is excited to host the 2019 BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks) National Conference on April 11-12, 2019. The 2019 BARR National Conference will celebrate BARR’s 20th anniversary and will feature a keynote address by former U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.

St. Louis Park High School is where the BARR model was developed and piloted. Angie Jerabek, a school counselor at the time, created the model in order to promote an environment of healthy behavior choices and academic success.

BARR is a strengths-based model that provides schools with a comprehensive approach to meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs of all students. This model that started in St. Louis Park won the support of the U.S. Department of Education and is expanding to 250 schools across the country by 2021.
