Dr. Silvy Un Lafayette Named Director of Assessment, Research and Evaluation
St. Louis Park Public Schools is pleased to announce that Dr. Silvy Un Lafayette will join the school district as the new Director of Assessment, Research and Evaluation beginning July 2019.
“I am thrilled to welcome Dr. Lafayette to the St. Louis Park Public Schools team,” said Superintendent Astein Osei. “She has the capacity to influence the work we are doing which will help accelerate us to our desired future."
Since 2012, Dr. Lafayette has brought her research background into school leadership roles. In her five years with St. Paul Public Schools, she served as an Administrative Intern and Administrator in the Office of Leadership Development. For the last two years, she has been an Assistant Principal at Brooklyn Center Middle School and High School STEAM. In these roles, she used her training in theory, research and data analysis to support the development of educators working to close opportunity gaps for students from underrepresented and marginalized communities.
As the Director of Assessment, Research and Evaluation for St. Louis Park Public Schools, Dr. Lafayette will use her expertise as an educator and education researcher to help all students graduate and be college and career ready. In addition, one of her long-term goals is to bring student voice into the school evaluation and improvement process.
Dr. Lafayette is Cambodian American and was raised in Rosemount, Minnesota. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology at the University of Notre Dame and earned a Master's Degree in Education from Boston College. After teaching middle school on the east coast, she returned to Minnesota to complete a Ph.D. in Education: Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. Her research interests include topics in education related to race, equity, culturally relevant pedagogy and the experiences of students from immigrant backgrounds. She currently lives in North Minneapolis with her husband Lee and their son Justus.
