Summer 2019 Facilities Update

A number of construction projects are taking place during the summer months at Aquila Elementary School, Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School, St. Louis Park Middle School, and St. Louis Park High School. Many of these projects will be completed before the first day of school on September 3, 2019, while other projects are ongoing. Below is a short video summarizing the work that is being done this summer. More information about construction projects can be be found online at

Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School

Construction is nearly complete at Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School, which will move into the building formerly known as Cedar Manor School at 9400 Cedar Lake Road in mid-August.

Exterior construction included moving the main entrance from the upper parking lot to the lower parking lot on the East side of the building. With the front entry move, the main office will also move down to the lower level adjacent to the new entry.

A new bus loop has been constructed on the North side of the building, near where a new playground is being installed.

Renovations touched almost every square foot of the interior of the school including the classrooms, media center, cafeteria, multi-purpose rooms, and collaborative spaces for student services.

All classrooms have been renovated for next century learning including new furniture, technology, lighting, carpet and paint.

The school’s kitchen and cafeteria have been renovated to allow for more nutritious and made-from-scratch meals.

The school will have a new media center and makerspace with new furniture, technology, lighting, carpet and paint.

St. Louis Park High School

The space formerly occupied by the District Office on the northwest side of the High School adjacent to West 33rd Street is being reconfigured and renovated to fit the needs of the High School Administration.

The space will house the principal, assistant principals, the Student Office staff, the counseling staff, the Health Office staff, and the School Resource Officer. A new main entry is also being created adjacent to the current loading dock.

This project will not only allow for a more efficient work environment for High School Administration, but it will also free up space within the High School for more classroom and learning space. The project is expected to be completed before the start of the 2019-20 school year.

Construction also continues on the High School locker rooms. When completed, the new locker rooms will feature a new layout, lockers, flooring, lighting, toilets, sinks, showers, and branding. There will also be new and improved storage areas, team rooms, and coaches offices, as well as a new common athletic training room. The project is expected to be completed before the start of the fall 2019 athletic season.

Construction is also underway on the expansion of the High School weight room and fitness center. This project is expected to be completed in January of 2020.

Work also continues on the High School tennis courts, which will be available for use during the girls’ tennis season this fall.

St. Louis Park Middle School

Construction is now underway on the South side of the Middle School where renovations of the Media Center and classroom additions will take place from now through January 2020.

When completed, the Media Center will feature a new layout with updated technology, furniture, lighting, carpet and paint.

Above the Media Center will be a new wing of classrooms that will fully connect the second floor hallways.

The Media Center will be relocated for the first semester of the 2019-20 school year during this phase of construction. It will temporarily be located in a double classroom in the art hallway.

The Middle School Health Office has been renovated to better serve students and families and will be operational by the start of the school year.

Aquila Elementary School

Aquila Elementary School has been closed during the summer months for a number of construction projects. All of the school’s classrooms are being renovated for next century learning including upgrades to furniture, technology, lighting, carpet, and paint. These new flexible and dynamic learning spaces will benefit all learners in many ways.

Also under construction this summer at Aquila is the school’s kitchen and media center. Kitchen renovations will allow the school to serve more nutritious and made-from-scratch meals. Renovations in the media center include a new floor plan, updated furniture, technology, flooring, lighting and paint, a new testing area, and an updated computer lab.
