Ultimate Frisbee Teams Crush It at State Tournament

The St. Louis Park High School girls and boys Orange Crush ultimate frisbee teams had standout performances at the Minnesota High School State Tournament on June 26-27 at the National Sports Center in Blaine. The girls team won the Division 2 state championship, the boys team finished as state runners-up in the Open Division 1 tournament, and several athletes from both teams received individual honors and awards.

On their way to the Division 2 title, the girls team recorded victories over St. Cloud Cathedral, Benilde-St. Margaret’s, Blake, Edina, and a pair of victories over Cretin-Derham Hall. At the conclusion of the tournament, senior Grace Stillman was named Second Team All-State. The girls team also received the Spirit Award at the conclusion of the tournament, meaning their opponents rated them the most fair minded, respectful and spirited team at the tournament.

The boys team went 5-1 at the state tournament and fell 14-13 to Edina in the state championship match. Seniors Danny Shope and Micah Davis were named First Team All-State, freshman Henry Horstman-Olson was named Rookie of the Year, and head coach Spencer Hagen was named Coach of the Year. The boys team also received the Spirit Award at the conclusion of the tournament. 

The boys team will continue its season by participating in the High School National Invitational on June 10-11 in Richmond, Virginia.
